Not Quite Dead.

Oh hai! I haven't forgotten about the blog.

I was hoping something good would happen since the production of my last video, unfortunately nothing has.

Some small events since my last post:

Left Black Rebel Rifter Club for a corp in GENTS (Gentlemens Agreement) - Turned out to be a waste of time for me. Unable to carebear effectively due to the complete lack of competent intel. It got to the point where I only logged in to change skills for about 2 months.

Now I rejoined Black Rebel Rifter Club and still bored out of my mind. Pirating just isn't appealing to me ATM. However it's nice to be around friends again and the corp was very welcoming.

I was having a discussion with a buddy of mine about mission runners, it wasn't the real topic of the conversation but I said something like "There is more to Eve than mission running". Later I was telling him how bored of Eve I was, he said something like "There is more to Eve than shooting people". So true. So right now I'm running missions to get the cash for a few PLEX, since they are super expensive ATM this could take a while (450m each at the time of this writing). I don't mind doing this for now. its easy ISK and beats the hell out of mining. Just doing missions the past 2 days has produced about 500m, that's just loot/salvage and mission rewards. I still have a ton of LP yet to sell.

After I get ahead on game time we shall see what road I take. Some ideas include, moving to NPC nullsec with Anxiir and my alt and live, setup in a WH again, build up my alt corp to make ISK from the members (I've actually been wanting to do this) or perhaps make a living exclusively in lowsec.

Whatever I decide to do, hopefully it keeps me interested in Eve Online for a very long time.

Highly Addictive 2 - Rifter Genocide Edition

Run time: 7:04
Format: MKV
Desc: Tristan, Raptor Solo
Resolution: 1680x1050
Size: 167MB
Track List:
  • Champion Sound - Fatboy Slim
  • Evil Things - Tenpenny Joke
Took a long time to gather the FRAPS for this. Tried to get some decent fights, all I found were Rifters. I kept this one short also, nobody wants to watch 30mins of 2 ships. In the credits, it says I used Super ©. I actually used Handbrake. This was a last minute change and the quality difference is amazing AND it produced a smaller file, go figure. Just too much effort to re-render the entire thing for that change.

Enjoy the short film, brownie points for knowing what the quote at the end of the movie is from.

If you need a player for MKV files, the easiest way is to install a full featured media player such as VLC Media Player.

VLC is free and open source and plays nearly every format. I like it because it plays MKVs flawlessly without the need to install a third party codec pack.

Worth The Price

Not often you fly a ship that gives back more than what you put into it. I'm not talking about ISK return. Once you fly the same ship over and over into battle it kinda grows on you. You get to know the little quirks. Like how the microwarp drive responds when making a tight turn, or how one guns' timing is off by a few microseconds.

I've had the pleasure of flying a ship like this recently. One of the finest frigates from the Imperial fleet. The Imperial Navy Slicer. It has seen a fair few battles and has never ran from one.

Sure, I could replace it with another, but it wouldn't be the same. Not the same machine.

I remember flying into Aeschee once and seeing another Slicer on scan. Jumping into the top belt, it didn't take the other to come and try to destroy me. Quickly getting lock and firing upon the imposter, he went down much faster than myself. However he is just as fast as I, and was able to get out of range.

Another close fight occurred with a Dramiel. He thought it would be an easy gank, he was sadly mistaken. A few exchanges of fire sent him trying to get some range to recover from losing shields and most armor in only a few volleys. He came in again at higher speed, this time the laser mountings were straining to keep up, landing a few glancing shots. It was enough to put the Dramiel into structure and he ran for the hills.

Today in Old Man Star a corp member got killed by a gang of frigates, including a Slicer. I picked up the fight on scan but was too late to help. I quickly went to my secret hanger and boarded the Slicer. I found the gang and warped in solo with the intent to cause some damage. Cause some damage I did. The enemy Slicer quickly tried to catch up with me as I burned away from the main gang. After chasing me for a few seconds, we ended up over 100km from the gang and it was just me and him. Darting around with laser beams lighting up the darkness, it was glorious. Instead of being cautious, I took charge and flew straight at him with guns overloaded. We hit structure at about the same time. Only difference is that I had a damage control and he exploded. After seeing this, his gang left me to the spoils.

Next door I seen a Daredevil and decided to go for it. This was the last mistake this ship will ever make. Pulling range helped at first, but I have never seen a Daredevil so fast in my life. I was able to get him to structure before he caught my ship. With a 90% web on me I didn't stand a chance. The odd thing here is that even though he had me, his buddy still had to come in an whore on the mail.

The loss was tragic, but it will only be missed for a short while. That Slicer was worth every ISK.

Horrible Users

During downtime today, a new patch was released. The normal downtime was extended by 2 hours. Now not many people look forward to patch days. But today was special. Many bugs that were introduced from rewriting the Eve user interface has been fixed, YAY!

However my enthusiasm is not shared it seems. And this occurs every single time the server is down for more than a few minutes past the regularly scheduled downtime.

There is a small, I stress SMALL portion of users that feel the need to whine and cry and threaten to cancel their accounts. It never fails, even for a downtime extended by a mere 15 minutes. Now I can understand that its prime time somewhere during these times. These users may feel cheated, yes. But as for demanding reimbursement in any form, no. Lets look at some reasons why I believe this.

1. Your skills continue to train, any arguments of lost training is invalid.
2. Your industry and research continue through downtime.
3. The extended downtimes are announced at least 12 hours in advance.
4. Whether you think so or not, CCP is actually fixing critical bugs, managing a gigantic database and keeping the servers running. Things go wrong sometimes.

The part that kills me is that CCP is catering to this small group of people who feel the need to spam the forums during patch deployment, spouting so many tears that anybody who would be interested in playing Eve would be instantly put off and they would go to WoW.

Since when do 30 people crying on the forum represent the entire Eve player base? Why does CCP seek to make game changing decisions based on one guy threatening to cancel his noob account because he cant go mining in his Velator?

Not a very good post but I honestly have nothing but questions. But I'll leave you with a vid all you readers know. I actually posted this early in the waterfall of tears and it didn't start to get "liked" (quoted) until around page 6 and people started shutting the hell up finally.
